Oh, cool Linda! These are awesome captures! Gotta love our state bird. Great time of the year for grasshoppers. The Loggerhead Shrike have been happily feasting on the grasshoppers too.
Thanks Cindy. We’ve had a great many grasshoppers lately, and the roadrunners are feasting on them. I also put mice that I catch in the traps out for them, and they’re very happy about that too!
Thanks Bob. I’ve had trial after trial, and although I’ve done some blogging on my Photo Flurries blog, I haven’t done much birding lately. This guy conveniently showed up in my yard, so it was pretty easy to grab a couple of photos. I need to catch up on your blog before I begin my next round of trial. I’ve missed you!!
For some reason, I wasn’t aware of your Photo Flurries blog. I just checked it out and I have added it, too, to my blogroll. I really enjoy your articles and photos, Linda. And, of course, I have missed you, too.
Thanks so much Patricia. I’m so fortunate to have them in my garden. They love it when I put the mice from the traps out for them. I never get tired of watching them and the Gambel’s Quail.
I enjoyed these photos. I have only seen roadrunners in nature once and my first response was to say “beep-beep” hoping for a reply Seriously they are wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
Happy you like the photos Katherine. Actually roadrunners are cuckoos, and they sounds rather like them. They also make interesting rattles and clicks. Here’s a video of the calls and clicks (not mine). http://youtu.be/2puQ-yC6rIw
Awesome capture Linda! I never can get a photo of one with something in its mouth.
Thanks Steve. Hate it that the light was all wrong; still, fun to see him with the grasshopper!

Thanks Donna. I was unhappy that the roadrunner was backlit, but very happy to see it with a big, juicy grasshopper!
Wow! How fantastic that you were able to capture the roadrunner with a grasshopper in its mouth. Super images!
Thanks Julie. I was hesitant to post the images because of the unfortunate backlighting, but now I happy that I posted them.
Ha, ha..My favorite bird..having lunch! Wonderful Linda!

Hi Linda, glad to see you’re blogging again. These pictures are great and the back-lighting really isn’t as bad as you think. They look fine to me.

Thanks Lovely Dawn. I wasn’t happy with the backlighting, but I do love the roadrunner and his grasshopper!
